yesterday i took a precious metal clay jewelry class at Centre des arts visuels i was thinking i would saunter in and start making hardware for my leather purses but i didn't have a lot of silver to work with and the class was mostly in french so i just did what i was told or...shown. i made a silver diamond studded half oxidized shark tooth of course. later i shallowed out and watched the red carpet parade while sipping pink champagne and flipping through the latest vogue lady gaga issue.... the picture is of her in McQueen.

online treasures

i've curated some etsy treasuries this weekend, you can see them below. there is so much great stuff sold online and i am so lucky to have customers from all over the world. with the current recession and stores closing down it's encouraging/astounding to see that internet commerce continues to grow. some people, like my mother, are still afraid to shop online, even though paypal is so very safe and people can just as easily steal your info from ordering a pizza or paying at a store. when you buy something online you still get the "rush" of making a purchase and with some delayed gratification you then feel the thrill of the delivery. and who doesn't love getting mail? check these out!

dark crystal just listed on etsy. i've been working on several versions of this bag as you know and i think this BLACK MOLD spring 2011 version has reached it's last stage FINALLY! made entirely from black 100% cotton, so it's more affordable than the leather bottom one. top is un-dyed using a bleach discharge process. straps are simple strips of new raw leather in a belt weight.









also on a side note i started watching Bob's Burgers last night, a new cartoon comedy and it's pretty funny IF you like poop jokes and zombies making out jokes and the stalker "mel" from flight of the conchords is in it.

bambi

i have a SAGE business class today so here is more of Bambi, i think she is so gorgeous and mean looking. she makes me want to grow my eyebrows out. also the scenery in contrast to her pink and purple hair c'est magnifique!

not every blogger's idea of a good shopping day but i'm excited..... fluorescent thread, beeswax and shoulder pads on sale. i promise to use the neon colours and shoulder pads for good instead of evil.

denis gagnon

i went to the montreal museum of fine arts on the last day of the denis gagnon exhibit. it was a very stark and dark set up. i only took photos of the zipper pieces, they are my personal favorite and what he is most known for lately.




Mr. Gagnon attended college LaSalle and then went on to making costumes to get more experience with his craft which i believe to be a very smart move that many fashion students overlook. there is a lot of couture sewing and old technics kept alive in costume making plus the money is not bad.

it was a wonderful snowy day to just walk around the musuem, i had trouble finding it but luckily a style blogger from boston?? stopped to take my picture and was able to point me in the right direction. beyond boston chic

fluorescent pussy

my little daring just loves to help me work and model the new colours. silk crepe de chine and silk georgette hand dyed in two blinding fluorescent colours chartreuse and pumpkin.



probably a good sign that spring is coming. mornings are getting sunnier and i've decided to mix colour into my clothing, i said i was going to but not sure this is what people expected....or maybe it is?

i am not that embarrassed to say: i am a little hungover from yesterday..... i got drunk at dinner and forgot to make dessert for my valentine he he. so before i got working on dyeing the fabric, that arrived oh so painfully early this morning, i made these while my kitchen was still dye poison free.

neon

i was born in the 80's and grew up in the 90's this makes me partial to neon colours. this weekend i tried my hand at dyeing some silk crepe de chine fluorescent and it's so fun! this is a fluorescent yellow/chartreuse.



i made this dress half and half because it's all i had left after making a full dress for selling (show later). the bottom is a dove grey silk i got in nyc.

i wore it to a valentine's party last night. i think i've been watching too much gossip girl because there i was sewing and thinking i'm so "jenny" making my dress to go to a special party forgetting that i don't go to high society fashionable parties, i go to obscure basements in the back alley parties were it's too dark and smokey and cold to care what you are wearing and the cops come and break it up before i even get my dance on.



still working out the photo booth problems, i need better lights and more of them.....

fur coat #2 from value village shopping day is way too big for me but the fur is perfect for making fall accessories. i have been wearing the coyote looking one like crazy though, it is cold here in montreal.

studio visit

i went to see some silk samples at the studio of some designer friends here in montreal. their space is a huge industrial dream, so i had to share.



yana's space is the cutest, next to her work area is a little cozy corner that she can curtain off when she needs some privacy and maybe a nap. check out her etsy site supayana



beautiful display showroom right when you walk in the door. potential buyers can pop in to see what they have each season. very smart. they built it using scrap wood.


angie's work space (norwegianwood) behind her and past elizabeth, audrey and yana. we got to look at her upcoming fall collection, very cool stuff. i'm very lucky to have all these talented ladies to talk to about work with!!




i really love marc simard's space. i was drawn like a moth to a flame when i saw his leather collection that he keeps well stocked for his work broundoor
he also uses this old beautiful singer sewing machine. love it.

i am not usually a sweets person but this maple pie from the jean-talon market is soo wonderful. .....there are no words.

i got two really awesome and not over-priced fur coats at the vv boutique last weekend. which will be fixed up and worn for the remainder of winter and then recycled into beautiful accessories for fall 2011, i'm thinking fur muff/purses?
