magic no. 3
i did a little photo shoot yesterday for my latest collection:
MAGIC no. 3
here are some pictures i took of my lovely and talented crew. above is the sweet and super tall model VERO from dulcedo models. She was quite young and sooo good, very posey.
Hollie Hensman (the bride) did hair and make up. beautiful job, super pro from her years as a mac make-up artist. i'd hire her again in a second.
kayla, my best friend and new assistant. words cannot describe how lucky i am to steal her for my own. i hope she can stay and work full time.
hollie checking her phone for messages to be an extra in the movies!
photographer april lea, so confident and fun to work with. we shot in the basement hallway of her studio building. there was a lot of white power bullshit graffiti on the wall. charming.
great work team and THANK YOU! this was for a look book but i'll post some behind the pics of the creative portion next.
also thank you Unicorn Boutique for allowing me to borrow these beautiful shoes!

cirque du soleil
i was lucky enough to get a tour of the cirque du soleil costume shop a few days ago. some of my pictures magically dissapeared off my camera but i can describe it. AMAZING!
they make all the costumes for every cirque show in the world here in montreal.
there are entire rooms for dyeing fabric, printing fabric, storing fabric. they work in biggest sewing shop i have ever seen making the costumes for new productions and then the second biggest sewing shop i have ever seen for maintaining the costumes of past shows that are going out again..
this is just the studio for making hats. there are also separate shops for making shoes, wigs and face plasters
my favorite thing: a machine for dyeing leather.
AND they have this room full of swatches. fabric trim everything you could dream of and all the designers and cutters have to do is go in there and pick what they want send a list to the storage or "store" downstairs and they deliver it to you. this place runs like a dream and is extremely organized. everything was labeled within a inch of it's life, as kayla would say.
there is also artists there who develop new textures for fabric and just create new textiles all day.
these are the finished costumes ready to go out.

my dance card is full
kayla brought me this lovely belated birthday present she picked up on her travels through nova scotia. it is an antique silver writing pencil used by ladies at formal balls to write down on their dance card which man would get each dance. romantic! i find myself wishing for such an event so i can use it. it still has lead that retracts when you spin it.

arranging feathers

i've been supplying feather earrings to canada for longer than i'd like to admit. here are some i recently sent to twisted sisters boutik in newfoundland. sometimes i get bored, sometimes i pay jon to make them and sometimes i feel like a delicate little flower arranger just making beautiful wild bouquets for your ears. this makes me think of elizabeth's little sister mary, who just started a new blog all about flowers and gardening and foody stuff. check it MAINLAND
